Administrative Clerk (VFA)
Starting on September 1, you will spend three years gaining insights primarily into legal and administrative tasks as well as public finance. Applications are accepted annually from September 1 to November 30 for the upcoming training year.
Requirements
- At least a Realschulabschluss
- Good knowledge of German and mathematics
- Understanding of administrative procedures
- Interest in working with legal regulations, computer programs, and other office technologies
- Enjoyment of working with the public
- Business-level proficiency in German, at least C1 language proficiency
Tasks
Depending on your area of assignment, you’ll gain insight into the scope of responsibilities. You’ll become familiar with the software used there, and over time, you’ll be given more and more responsibility.
At the registry office, for example, you’ll gain experience with the Statista program and, under the guidance of a registrar, will be able to record births and marriages.
Trainees in the Human Resources department will be introduced to employment law. In addition, you’ll assist with planning and organizing events and play a key role in the application process for apprenticeship positions.
Theory
The theoretical portion of the training accounts for about one-third of the program. Vocational school classes are held at the “Dr. Eduard Amthor” State Vocational School for Business and Administration in Gera. The following subjects, among others, are taught:
- Human Resources
- Economics and Law,
- Accounting,
- Economics,
- German,
- English,
- Text and Data Processing.
In addition, you’ll take courses at the Thuringian School of Public Administration (TVS) in Gera or Hermsdorf. You’ll be taught by instructors who themselves work in public administration or related fields. You’ll become familiar with the following subject areas:
- Administrative Law
- Budgeting and Public Administration Management,
- Organization and office management processes,
- Citizen-centered administrative practice,
- Public Order, Police, and Business Law,
- Social Law.
Practice
During your internships, you will be trained in various departments of the Jena City Administration, such as:
- Human Resources Department
- Municipal Order Department
- Social Services Department
- Youth and Education Department
- Immigration and Residency Department
- Citizen Services Department
- Finance Department
