Practical Training Program Leading to Certification as a State-Certified Early Childhood Educator (m/f/d)
The training program always begins on August 1 and lasts a total of three years. You will gain in-depth insights into work in the field of education and become familiar with the operations of municipal daycare centers.Applications are accepted during the first quarter of each year.
Important Note
At the same time as applying to the City of Jena, you must apply to the State Vocational School for Health and Social Services in Erfurt by March 31 of the respective year.
Requirements
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent educational qualification and completion of at least two years of vocational training (e.g., as a social services assistant or childcare worker) or
- high school diploma or university of applied sciences entrance qualification and at least 480 hours of practical work experience in a relevant field (preferably in early childhood education or at a daycare center) or
- a general university entrance qualification from a vocational high school specializing in health and social services and at least 160 hours of practical work in a relevant field (preferably in early childhood education or at a daycare center)
Tasks
You can expect tasks that will challenge you while also expanding your knowledge!
- Observing and documenting developmental progress
- Providing individualized support for the children’s development
- Caring for and supporting children in their daily routines
- Collaborating with parents for the children’s well-being
- Implementing the Thuringian Education Plan and the facility’s educational philosophy

Practice
During your practical training, you will be assigned to one of our ten municipal kindergartens. The facilities have different educational approaches, ranging from Montessori education to nature-based education and inclusive programs. Here you will find an overview of our kindergartens and can learn more about them.
In addition, you’ll complete an external internship in the field of “educational support.”

Compensation during the apprenticeship:
