Social Work/Social Services (B.A.)
The three-year program takes the form of a practice-oriented degree program at the Gera-Eisenach Cooperative State University. Every three months, you’ll participate in a variety of internships with the city administration.
The curriculum of the dual degree program focuses on social work/social pedagogy, methodological exercises, and the fundamentals of administration and law. The program concludes with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree.
The dual degree program begins on September 1 of each year. Applications are accepted annually from September 1 through November 30 for the upcoming academic year.
Requirements
You
- hold a general university entrance qualification or a university of applied sciences entrance qualification, or a recognized equivalent level of education
- already have experience in the field of social pedagogy or youth work (e.g., an internship or volunteer position lasting at least 14 days)
- have good verbal and written communication skills as well as business-level proficiency in German, at least at the C1 level

Practice

During your studies, you’ll gain experience in a variety of areas, such as the Youth Welfare Department, the Youth and Education Department, and the Social Services Department.
Your professional duties will include supporting, assisting, and advising families, children, adolescents, and older adults. You’ll plan support services systematically and with professional expertise in accordance with legal regulations. You’ll be assigned a specific task for each case, and you’ll write a project paper addressing the issues involved.

- Staff member at youth centers
- Social worker or street social worker, e.g., at the child welfare agency, on the refugee affairs and temporary housing team, on the general or Special Social Services, in the Child and Youth Welfare Services team, in the Juvenile Court and Vocational Assistance for Youth team, or in the Youth Work/Youth Social Work team
